Try the example "Datatables" --> "Search". In this example, there is a pagination active that shows 10 of 14 entries, and an arrow to move to the second page. If you enter a search pattern and less than 10 entries are filtered, the pagination is still active. If you move to the second page, this one is empty.

Is it possible to update the pagination depending on the number of filtered entries ?
