Expected behavior: Using the API documentation provided for a select I rigged up a button to open a select when pressed. I would expect this to mean that it stays open once clicked, like the input element that natively triggers the select menu.

Actual behavior: The button merely opens the select menu for a brief second while pressed. It does not toggle the select menu like the input element.
