Topic: input select arrow showing weird characters
AngelusPeterus free asked 3 years ago
*_Expected behavior_*Input select should always show us a nice arrow to the right edge.
*_Actual behavior_*For some reason sometimes it is just bugging and showing weird characters, no matter if its actuall plain web or a modal (...) .select-arrow:before content: "▼"; changing to â–¼ but why?

Update: It may be related to the screen size as if I for example show up the console of chrome or whatever to see the source code, then it's going crazy - not always, its random!. For now I did not notice this with firefox ( Debug console is showing "below" the site not to the right side. )

I think I found the solution. I replaced original .select-arrow:before{content:"▼"} from mdb.min.css to .select-arrow:before{content:"\25BC"} for CSS escape notations. Seems to be working for me as I'm unable to see the issue again. So it was encoding problem related to my browser, PC, editor or so.

I'm glad to hear that you no longer have this issue. Thanks again for your feedback :)

Hi,
This error from console is note related to this issue. Although I was still not able to recreate it (I have tried many times even in full window mode), I have added proper task to investigate this issue. Thanks for your instructions and screenshots. They will be helpful.
Keep coding,
Dawid

Hi. I'm unable to see your snippet. Can you check it or create a new one? Probably you forgot to click publish.

You're right, did not clicked the publish btn. Should be fixed now.

Did you notice any errors in console when select didn't have the arrow? I'm resizing, opening mobile view and I didn't notice this issue. Maybe there is some extra code, that you didn't include in your snippet, which is causing the problem. Did you notice the same behavior in your snippet?
AngelusPeterus free commented 3 years ago
Actually I did, so it may exclude extra code that could causing the problem. What is interesting, in the snippet I could not catch it without explore code of html / console to the right side of the screen. As u can see on the screenshots there is one issue but it should be irrelevant.
Well I find out something now how to recreate the problem in my case ( It may take several approaches. Need to close Inspect box every time I'm taking the steps again).1. Acting on attached snippet I need to have browser full sized to the maximum (1920x1080 monitor).2. Refresh the page and then right click to choose Inspect.3. Again refresh the page to see the changes with the arrow.SS - https://imgur.com/a/QzoCnJM
I cannot recreate this on my site without the Inspect and it can be possible that I just thought I wasn't ( Inspecting the code ) when it pop up ( closed console or whatever ). Also. Snippet is loading kind of slowly but my site is not and I cannot recreate weird arrow chars just like that, like with the snippet.
