Topic: MDB works badly in IE 11

Natrix85 pro asked 7 years ago

You state that you support IE10+ (but with some minor corrections: https://mdbootstrap.com/browsers-and-devices/).

I'm building a web application using your Admin Pack and white skin (Bootstrap 4 / MDB 4.4.1), but it is rendered useless in IE11 because of the background is rendered over all buttons. A temporary fix is to deactivate the position: fixed; and z-index in mdb.css line 9490 for .side-nav .sidenav-bg.

Even your own website (mdbootstrap.com)  looks bad in IE11. I can't access the templates sections (all blank pages: https://mdbootstrap.com/product/landing-page-theme/#live-preview) using IE11 and the left nav has no links at smaller browser widths.

A permanent fix on the way?

Dear @jasdanh

Could you please specify, which exactly problem you're experiencing with MDB Angular on IE11?

Best Regards,

Damian

Hi is this still an issue with IE11 because we are experiencing this problem today. Has this been fixed, because we are planning to use this for our project. I've read the support for IE11 and it's say n/a, however that was 7 months ago. I'm hopping this has been addressed. We are using Angular.

Do you use MDB Angular or MDB jQuery with Angular?

MDB Angular 7.4

Hi, Thanks for replying. I understand the issues with IE. I hope IS usage drops sooner than later. Sincerely, Matt N.

Hi, as you can read in our official statement of supported browsers and devices, we do not support IE. Link about IE That means, most of the things will work, but some of them will not (like components based on flexbox etc.). That's nothing we can do about it because IE is so outdated. There is no ETA for this bug. We'are sorry, but we have much more important things to deliver than support for old, outdated browser which is hardly used by anyone. Best, Marta

Marta, that's a somewhat irresponsible comment. As a provider of Software as a Service, our customers are often corporate users who are slow adopters. As of this writing (November, 2019) roughly 20% of our overall traffic is still Internet Explorer 11. For us, that means about 160K user sessions per week (or roughly 3.2M page views). To say that it's "hardly used by anyone" is not a factual statement. If the likes of Google, Apple, Amazon and other players need to continue to support IE, surely others do as well.

Hi,

my comment was from a year ago. But you can still see our official statement about supported and not supported browsers here: https://mdbootstrap.com/general/browsers-and-devices/. Also, I answered about not supporting IE by MDB here: https://mdbootstrap.com/support/jquery/mdb-pro_4-8-10-and-ie-11/. You can also read here the Microsoft answers about IE: https://support.microsoft.com/en-za/help/17454/lifecycle-faq-internet-explorer.

I still experience issues with IE11, even on MDB main site. Take for example the admin templates demo: https://mdbootstrap.com/product/admin-theme/#live-preview. In IE, the left menu links don't work and the page itself renders with lots of whitespace. I'd really like to ignore this fact, and yes, IE is hopefully going to rest in peace some time in the near future. Put that aside; the customer base I work with still(!) has, for some reason, a high percentage of IE usage (> 30%). I for sure can't ignore my customers. We'll see if MDB can...

Has this issue been resolved in the current version?  We are still experiencing issues with the hamburger menu in IE even on the mdbootstrap's own website.

Thank you for replying. I trust you fix the template pack compatibility issues with IE in the next updates.  Meanwhile I'll roll back to another version or try a workaround. Sincerely, Matt N.

Hi, in our next updates, we will fix our MDB free and pro packs and also templates packs compatibility with IE. You can send me a file with your code to m.szymanska@mdbootstrap.com if you need my help now. I'll try to help. Best, Marta
